Fire Dispatcher/Maintenance Technician

Under supervision of the Fire Chief, the Dispatcher/Maintenance Technician (from here forward referred to as Dispatcher), answers emergency and routine calls from the public for fire and medical assistance and dispatches necessary personnel and equipment; and performs other related duties as required.  Performs light mechanical duties; maintains the interior and exterior of the Fire Department buildings and takes orders from the Fire Chief or Chief Officers of the Corning Fire Department.

This is a civilian employee of the City of Corning and holds no rank as a dispatcher and is not a member of the Corning Volunteer Fire Department, unless approved by the general Volunteer Membership of the Department.

Under general supervision to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in, and provide support to, special department crime prevention and enforcement programs; and to perform a variety of technical law enforcement tasks.

Police Dispatch/Clerk

Under general supervision a Dispatcher/Clerk will: receive all incoming calls for police assistance; operate two-way radio using standard broadcasting procedures and rules; operate local, state and national computer systems; learn the geographic layout and street locations of Corning and the surrounding area; effectively communicate with the public in the police business office; provide information and referrals to the appropriate agency or City department; handle telephonic inquiries of both emergency and non-emergency nature; prepare complaints and report submissions to the District Attorney, Courts, Probation, County and State offices in a timely manner; maintain police records and confidential criminal history files; be able to exercise judgement and work with minimum supervision; process applications for special licensing and other related work; search prisoners and assist with interviews and statements, when necessary.

Commission Member

The City of Corning is seeking applicants to serve as Commissioners on the Planning, Recreation, Airport and Library Commissions. Each of these Commissions consist of five members, a Chairperson and four Commissioners. This is a volunteer position with no compensation provided. The meeting dates and times are as follows:

  • Planning Commission: Third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
    Number of Openings: 0
  • Airport Commission: Quarterly on the first Monday of the month in January, April,
    July and October at 6:30 p.m.
    Number of Openings: 1
  • Recreation Commission: Quarterly on the first Tuesday of the month in January,
    April, July and October at 5:30 p.m.
    Number of Openings: 1
  • Library Commission: Quarterly on the first Wednesday of the month in January,
    April, July and October at 5:30 p.m.
    Number of Openings: 1
