- Special City Council Meeting on July 30th at 4:30 p.m. regarding extending the city pool season an additional three weeks.
- At Tuesday’s City Council Meeting, City Council approved the Recreation Center and Community Plaza Project. This project includes a recreation center with gymnasium, city plaza with shade structures, an amphitheater, and splash pad. The project is currently out to bid with a September 2nd closing date. This project is greatly funded by grant monies.
- At Tuesday’s City Council Meeting, City Council approved the Toomes Avenue Waterline Infill Project and is currently out to bid along with a new well. These two projects are apart of a State water grant.
- Staff met with Tehama County Environmental Health regarding their plan to be actively engaged in Corning. Their focus remains to be on food, health, and safety and legal permitted vendors.
- Work to repair the snack bar at Yost Park should be wrapped up next week. Please avoid and stay clear of the construction area during this time.
- Staff continue to work with developers on residential and commercial developments.
- Code Enforcement remains active. Citizens can do their part by keeping properties clean and clear of debris and follow State laws and City codes.
- As part of the new finance software implementation, efforts to streamline the utility billing process will be made. This may alter the time of month you receive your water and sewer bill. Please continue to pay your water and sewer bill upon receipt.

BUILDING DEPARTMENT:
This week, the Building Division received two new permit applications. In addition, inspections were completed for two residential solar installations and two window/door replacements projects.
The Building Official participated in an inspector exchange hosted by the Shasta Cascade Chapter of the ICC. Topics covered during the exchange included requirements for residential surge protectors, AFCI and GFCI breakers, electrical panel locations, and pool safety barrier standards. These exchanges serve as a valuable regional collaboration that help ensure consistent code enforcement and provide opportunities to share insights and best practices with neighboring jurisdictions.
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT:
Water:
- With the hot weather water leaks continue to pop up. The Public Works crew has been working diligently to address each one as they come up.
Hydrant Replacement:
- The Public Works Crew worked with the Fire Department to identify Fire Hydrants in need of replacement. As they work on replacing them there will be temporary water shut-offs in the surrounding areas. Notifications will be distributed prior to any water shut-offs.

Junior Giants Baseball Achievements –

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
The comment period for the Queen Olive project has come to an end with only two comments received, very minor, we will plan to move forward with this project and calendar it for the August 19th Planning Commission meeting.
Staff will be meeting with SHN regarding an in-house initial study for the TK Ranch subdivision.
Updates on Code Enforcement:
Tehama County Environmental Health continues to shut down the vendor that sets up in the orchard at Blackburn and Edith. We will be meeting with them this week to discuss other possible options.
Update on commercial properties that have been noticed regarding long term vacant buildings.
3090 Highway 99W – First Citation sent out. There has been no response, staff will start the hearing process and if there is still no response, we will take this property to a receiver to ask if they are interested in it.
2985 Highway 99W – First Citation sent out. Staff received a phone call saying that plans would be turned in and that Mr. Kullar will be moving forward to open a business at this location.
1213 Solano St – No response on certified letter. The certified letter was returned unclaimed; staff will be discussing the matter with legal counsel.
Staff received a complaint that there are two RV’s parking in the Spring Mountain parking lot and connecting to City services, Staff is reaching out to the on-site management to have the RV’s move along.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 154 calls for service, there were 129 officer-initiated incidents, including 41 traffic stops, and a total of 23 officer reports were taken. Officers made 13 misdemeanor arrests, (3 of which were juveniles), 4 felony arrests, issued 10 misdemeanor citations, 6 parking, and 6 infractions during the period of July 16, 2025, through July 22, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of July 16, 2025, through July 22, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 333 inbound calls for service and made 107 outbound calls. In addition, they responded to 25 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 22 calls for service last week, they were: 18 medicals, 3 public service and 1 investigation.
