Miscellaneous:
- Wednesday was Administrative Professionals Day. I am grateful for the professional team of individuals we have. They are committed and dedicated to the City and the work they do. Thank you!
- Staff have begun the Fiscal Year 2025/2026 Budget process. Department head budget meetings have been completed and continued conversations will happen in the coming weeks. We do expect a decline in the revenue and plan to make adjustments accordingly. The Capital Improvement Projects will be presented to the City Council at the next meeting.
- On Friday the City hosted the Children’s Memorial Flag Raising at the City Hall. This is the second year a flag raising has been hosted in Corning
- Staff continue to meet with developers regarding housing and commercial developments in Corning. A meeting was held on Tuesday regarding a specific commercial project with the County of Tehama.

Current Project Updates:
Tehama Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS International was awarded the Tehama Street Rehabilitation Project at the April 8th City Council meeting. Construction is scheduled to begin in late April.
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS International continues to make progress on the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project.
- City staff and the contractor are coordinating with local schools to minimize traffic disruptions during student drop-off and pick-up hours.
- The current phase of construction has been completed, with work scheduled to resume at the beginning of June.
City Pool Preparation:
City Staff has prepared the pool for the upcoming swim season and passed inspection. Swimming lessons will begin in the middle of May for second grade students.

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
Housing Element:
Staff are working on the 16 zoning text amendments required by the state within our 7th cycle Housing Element. We are planning to take the Ordinance to the Planning Commission in May.
ADU Ordinance:
An updated ADU Ordinance was sent to HCD for review on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Code Enforcement:
The property located at 1518 Marin St. is currently in the process of a complaint being filed with the judge
New Trees:
Eli and I met with Miranda from Butte Environmental to discuss the planting of trees with our City Parks.
The locations are as follows:
3 trees at Children’s Park
10 trees at Clark Park
1 tree at Northside Park
9 trees at the Skate Park
8 trees at Lennox Field
Initial Study Review:
An Initial Study review was sent out to responsible parties this week regarding the project on the west side of I-5 at South Ave, recipients have until May 22, to comment.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 180 calls for service, there were 174 officer-initiated incidents, including 80 traffic stops, and a total of 30 officer reports were taken. Officers made 10 misdemeanor arrests, (2 of which were juveniles), 2 felony arrests, issued 7 misdemeanor citations, 2 parking, and 10 infractions during the period of April 16, 2025, through April 22, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of April 16, 2025, through April 22, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 335 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 52 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
News:
Saturday April 26, 2025, is Drug Takeback Day! Bring us your unwanted/unneeded medications for disposal! We will have boxes set up here at the PD from 10 am to 2pm.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 24 calls for service last week, they were: 18 medicals, 1 mutual aid fire, 2 public service, 1 traffic collision and 2 investigations.
