- City Council Meeting: May 13, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
Miscellaneous:
- On Friday, I met with Butte College regarding service and programs to benefit residents and students.
- Waste Management Franchise Agreement discussions continue.
- The Public Works Director and I met with an Elementary School District Representative about the upcoming projects at the school sites.
- Staff continue to work on the Tyler Technology, finance software, upgrade.
- On Wednesday, I met with Red Bluff City Manager, Tom Westbrook.
- On Thursday, staff met with Salado Apartment Phase II developers to continue discussions and coordination.
- The Building Department is under a transition. Beginning May 1st, Building Department Staff will be available Tuesday, Thursday and Friday each week. City Staff will continue assist customers 5 days a week.
- Fiscal Year 2025/2026 Budget process is underway. Department head budget meetings have been completed and continued conversations will happen in the coming weeks. We do expect a decline in the revenue and plan to make adjustments accordingly. The Capital Improvement Projects will be presented to the City Council at the next meeting.
- Staff continue to meet with developers regarding housing and commercial developments in Corning. A meeting was held on Tuesday regarding a specific commercial project with the County of Tehama.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT:
Tuesday Night Market:
The Corning Tuesday Night Market will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Solano Street will be closed between 3rd Street and 6th Street to accommodate the event.
- Street closure begins: Approximately 4:00 PM for event preparation.
- Street reopens: Following the conclusion of the event.
We encourage residents and visitors to attend and enjoy the local vendors, food, and entertainment.
Current Project Updates:
Tehama Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS International was awarded the Tehama Street Rehabilitation Project at the April 8th City Council Meeting. Construction is scheduled to begin in late April.
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS International continues to make progress on the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project.
- City staff and the contractor are coordinating with local schools to minimize traffic disruptions during student drop-off and pick-up hours.
- The current phase of construction has been completed, with work scheduled to resume at the beginning of June.
City Pool Preparation:
City Staff has prepared the pool for the upcoming swim season and passed inspection. 2nd Grade Swim lessons will begin in the middle of May.

Census:
Corning’s population has increased to 8,268 as of January 1, 2025
Income Rates:
Tehama County Median Income Rates have increased again to $93,900.00 for a family of 4.
Yard Sale Signs:
Remember if you are having a yard sale please do not put signage on the poles in town, there is a message board in the Park and Ride across from City Hall, please utilize it.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 153 calls for service, there were 213 officer-initiated incidents, including 134 traffic stops, and a total of 23 officer reports were taken. Officers made 13 misdemeanor arrests, (1 of which was a juvenile), 2 felony arrests, (1 of which was a juvenile), issued 10 misdemeanor citations, 1 parking, 2 unclassified, and 15 infractions during the period of April 23, 2025, through April 29, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of April 23, 2025, through April 29, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 298 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 28 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 22 calls for service last week, they were: 19 medicals, 1 traffic collision, 1 public service and 1 investigation.
Training:
Training for the CVFD consisted of dropping large diameter hose at a hydrant and feeding water to an engine already engaged in a structure fire.
