CITY MANAGER:

Meetings:
- City Council Meeting: June 10, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
Miscellaneous:
- Staff has been working with the insurance adjuster on the Yost Park Snack Bar. We have a contractor scheduled to look at the project and project an estimate.
- On Wednesday, I attended the Corning High School Senior Awards Night to present the J.T. Levy Scholarship and community organization scholarship awards.
- On Thursday I met with the Waste Management Public Sector Manager regarding the City of Corning contract.
- Staff continue to work on the finance software upgrade. A lot of meetings and training took place this week. In the end the city will have a modern finance system.
- Fiscal Year 2025/2026 Budget process is wrapping up. The budgets have been compiled and prepared to be presented to City Council. We do expect a decline in the revenue and made adjustments accordingly. The Fiscal Year 2025/2026 Budget will be presented to City Council at the June 10th meeting.
- On Thursday, June 12th at 3:00 p.m. the Corning Cemetery District is having a building dedication event.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT:
Community Event/Street Impact:
Corning Around the World will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Solano Street will be closed between 3rd Street and 6th Street, along with 4th Street from Solano Street to the Yolo Street alleyway, to accommodate the event.
- Street closure begins: Approximately 3:30 PM for event preparation.
- Street reopens: Approximately 11:00 PM.
We encourage residents and visitors to attend and enjoy the local vendors, food, and entertainment.

Tehama Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS International continues to make progress on the Tehama Street Rehabilitation Project.
- The current phase of construction has been completed, with work scheduled to resume on June 11th.
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
Ordinance 713 will be on the consent agenda for its second reading.
It’s that time of year, The Planning Department is receiving a lot of code enforcement complaints, regarding residents not keeping their yards cleaned up, roaming chickens and people living in RV’s.
The City has filed a mitigated negative declaration with CEQA net regarding commercial development on the West side of I-5 at South Ave. It is available for review at https://www.corning.org/current-notices/
The City has filed the Environmental Assessment and the FONSI with the California Department of Housing and Community Development, (HCD) regarding the NEPA study of the City of Corning Plaza and Recreation Center. As soon as we have approval from HCD, the information will be available at https://www.corning.org/current-notices/.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 154 calls for service, there were 156 officer-initiated incidents, including 77 traffic stops, and a total of 21 officer reports were taken. Officers made 4 misdemeanor arrests, 4 felony arrests (1 of which was a juvenile), issued 4 misdemeanor citations, 1 parking, and 7 infractions during the period of May 28, 2025, through June 3, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of May 28, 2025, through June 3, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 322 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 29 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 24 calls for service last week, they were: 16 medicals, 4 fires, 2 public service and 2 investigations.

As of May 31st, there is NO BURNING in the city limits.
