INTERIM CITY MANAGER:

Code Enforcement Hearing  :

There will be a Code Enforcement Hearing on Tuesday, July 11th at 3:00pm both for public nuisance abatement (weeds, brush) associated with two properties within the City, one at 1013 Toomes Avenue, and the other at 712 Fifth Street.

Community Introductions:

On my lunch breaks I have enjoyed dining at various Solano Street eateries while making introductions and facilitating questions and comments concerning recruitment and hiring of a permanent City Manager.

Public Works Director Recruitment:

The external advertisement and recruitment for this Public Works Director position has been posted on NEOGOV with the Closing date of August 18, 2023 at 5:00pm.  The Job Flyer and application instructions can be found on the City’s website at www.corning.org/jobopportunities.

 

PUBLIC WORKS:

Olive View and West Street Schools Connectivity Project:

Builder Solutions, Inc has been awarded the bid for both the Olive View and West Street Schools Connectivity Projects.

Streets:

City Staff are continuing to work on paving streets around town.

 

RECREATION & PLANNING:

RECREATION:

Princess Meet & Greet:

Plans have been made and Chico Princess Parties and Corning Recreation have agreed on a date of July 29th to hold a Princess meet and greet.  Staff did a poll on social media to choose the 2 favorite princesses and it was decided that Anna & Elsa were the favorites.  This will be a fun meet and greet that the little ones in the community will remember for a LONG time.

Lights Camera Dance Program:

The new class, “Lights Camera Dance” started this week.  We are offering 2 days and both classes are full.

Jr. Giants Program:

Currently Corning Recreation has 90 youth enrolled in our Corning Jr. Giants Program.  We have 10 adult volunteer coaches and 16 volunteer helpers.  Staff would like to thank the community for stepping up and participating in this Program.  The Jr. Giants Foundation provides an excellent opportunity for our local youth, and we are very proud to be a part of it.

Recreation Program Report:

Staff are working on a report for presentation to the City Council at either the meeting on July 25th or August 8th.  This report will be a review of the first 6 months of the 2023 Recreation Program.

PLANNING:

Grocery Outlet/Dutch Bros. Tentative Map for Lot Split:

The Planning Department received an application for a Tentative Parcel Map to split the Grocery Outlet lot to accommodate the construction of the Dutch Bros.  Staff will be working on this, and it will be brought to the Planning Commission in August.

 

POLICE DEPARTMENT:

Patrol:

In addition to responding to 184 calls for service, a total of 20 officer reports were taken and there were 121 officer-initiated incidents, including 34 traffic stops.  Officers made 6 misdemeanor arrests. Officers issued 12 citations, 4 of which were misdemeanors and 8 were infractions during the period of June 29, 2023, through July 5, 2023.

Training:

Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins.  Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.

Dispatch:

During the period of June 29, 2023, through July 5, 2023, our Dispatch Center received 368 inbound calls for service.  In addition, they responded to 31 incoming 911 calls.  All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.

FIRE DEPARTMENT:

Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:

The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 29 calls for service last week, they consisted of: 22 medicals, 5 fires, 1 public service, and 1 hazardous condition.

The Orland, Capy, Artois, Bayliss, Glenn Codora, Ord Bend, and Butte City Volunteer Fire Departments:

The Orland, Capay, Artois, Bayliss, Glenn Codora, Ord Bend and Butte City Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to 26 calls for service last week, they consisted of:  9 medicals, 4 traffic collisions, 11 fires, and 2 investigations.

Chief’s Message:

It was a safe 4th with no fires or injuries from fireworks in the City; thank you!!! Fire danger is rising daily, be careful.
