BUILDING DEPARTMENT:

This week, the Building Division received six permit applications. Through inspections, the division finalized three residential solar projects, a residential HVAC system, and a commercial demolition permit.

The Building Official attended the Shasta Cascade Chapter meeting of the International Code Council. Topics discussed included AB 261 (Fire Safety and Fire Hazard Severity Zones), updates from the State Fire Marshal, AB 130 Housing, and Cal Fire’s interpretation of deck requirements in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). The session was highly educational and timely, as the triennial code adoption is set to occur this coming year.

AB 130 Housing includes recent amendments focused on improving permit efficiency, reducing barriers to housing production, and encouraging better coordination between state and local agencies. These changes will influence how local jurisdictions process permits and support new housing initiatives.

The Building Division continues to work to educate contractors and residents on standardized inspection request procedures. Inspection requests made be prior to 4:30 PM will be scheduled for the next business day.

To request an inspection, please call the Building Division at (530) 824-7027 or email bmierzwak@corningca.gov.
