- On September 4th at 5:00p.m. in the City Council Chambers a public meeting was held regarding Community Development Block Grant Program Income Funds the City intends to apply for to resurface the parking lot at Clark Park. An agenda item will appear on the next City Council meeting to request authorization of an application.
- The next Tuesday Night Market was a success! Thank you to all the Hometown Heros that were present!
- Staff would like to congratulate Building Official, Benjamin Mierzwak, he successfully completed the final exam in the Building Official Certification process and is now a Certified Building Official.
- We would like to congratulate Brett White he has been promoted to Assistant Public Works Director. His first day in this role will be September 1st.
- Code Enforcement remains active. Citizens can do their part by keeping properties clean and clear of debris and follow State laws and City codes. Additional letters were sent out this week.

All commissions meet quarterly on specified days the first week of the month in January, April, July, and October.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT:
This week, the Building Division processed four new permit applications and completed seven inspections. Among the finalized projects were two solar installations.
Homeowner reminder: The Building Division encourages all homeowners to verify the status of a contractor’s license before signing any agreements. Contractor licenses can be checked through the Contractors State Licensing Board (CSLB). Taking this step helps ensure you are working with a qualified professional.
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT:
Crew Work Schedule:
- The crew has switched back to their regular hours (7:00 AM -3:30 PM) as of Tuesday September 2, 2025. The meter reader will remain on his regular schedule (8 AM – 4:30 PM).
Water:
- With the hot weather, water leaks continue to pop up. The Public Works crew has been working diligently to address each one as they come up.
Hydrant Replacement:
- The Public Works Crew worked with the Fire Department to identify Fire Hydrants in need of replacement. As they work on replacing them there will be temporary water shut-offs in the surrounding areas. Notifications will be distributed prior to any water shut-offs.

Well Industries Inc was awarded the contract at the August 26th City Council Meeting. Work will begin early September.
Toomes Ave waterline Infill Project:
Lamb Unlimited was awarded the contract at the August 26th City Council Meeting. Work will begin early September.

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
Staff will be taking a tentative parcel map and mitigated negative declaration on the Queen Olive commercial project to the City Council meeting on Tuesday September 9th.
Staff continue to work on the Housing Element requirements.

Updates on Code Enforcement:
1216 South St – Legal Council is working with the court on receivership appointment.
1518 Marin St – A summons was posted on the property on August 19th, 2025.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 142 calls for service, there were 114 officer-initiated incidents, including 49 traffic stops, and a total of 32 officer reports were taken. Officers made 10 misdemeanor arrests, (3 of which were juveniles), 0 felony arrests, issued 7 misdemeanor citations and 3 infractions during the period of August 27, 2025, through September 2, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of August 27, 2025, through September 2, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 303 inbound calls for service and made 107 outbound calls. In addition, they responded to 28 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 19 calls for service last week, they were: 12 medicals, 2 fires, 1 traffic collision, 3 public service and 1 hazardous condition.
Message from the Chief:
The burn ban is still in effect, get your permit at the fire hall, the ban will be lifted after a significant rain.
