HOLIDAY:
July 4th: City Hall, Finance Department, the Public Works Corporation Yard and the City Pool will be closed in observance of Independence Day.
The City Council Meeting scheduled for July 8th has been canceled due to lack of an agenda.
CITY MANAGER:
Celebrate a Safe & Legal 4th of July – As we celebrate Independence Day, please remember that only California State Fire Marshal-approved “Safe and Sane” fireworks are allowed in the City of Corning. Fireworks that shoot into the air or explode are illegal and pose serious safety risks.
Let’s keep our community safe and fire-free. Enjoy a fun, responsible, and patriotic 4th of July!
Miscellaneous:
- This week is the Start of the new City Fiscal Year budget cycle. The City Budget operation period is from July 1st to June 30th of each year. Staff are working to begin projects and purchases that were approved for this budget cycle.
- Water and Sewer rates will be increasing effect July 1st. This increase was approved by Resolution in August 2024.
- As part of the new finance software implementation, efforts to streamline the utility billing process will be made. This may alter the time of month you receive your water and sewer bill. Please continue to pay your water and sewer bill upon receipt.
- The Magnolia Meadows CHIP development was the highlight of the CHIP June 2025 Newsletter. This project is complete with 53 houses.
- Fiscal Year 2025/2026 Budget was approved at the June 24th City Council Meeting. The budget year begins July 1st.

BUILDING DEPARTMENT:
In an effort to improve efficiency and ensure timely service, the Building Department is standardizing the process for scheduling inspections. All inspection requests must now be submitted either by calling the Building Department phone line or by emailing the Building Official directly.
Please note: Inspection requests made by 4:30 PM will be scheduled for the next business day. While we will do our best to accommodate preferred time windows, specific time slots are not guaranteed.

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
The Comment period for the Queen Olive project has come to an end with only two comments which staff is reviewing.
The City has received the improvement plans for the Falcon Subdivision.
Updates on Code Enforcement:
Staff closed down an unpermitted vendor that was located in the Corning Food Center parking lot and gave a warning to the property owner that if vendors keep popping up in the lot, he will start being fined.
A cease-and desist letter was given to Johnny Boys Taco Cart as a cooking method they were using is against California Health Code, setting up the cart while their food truck was in place, and not having a current permit. The owner came in and corrected all issues and had a conversation with Tehama County Environmental Health.

POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 198 calls for service, there were 123 officer-initiated incidents, including 38 traffic stops, and a total of 31 officer reports were taken. Officers made 18 misdemeanor arrests, (6 of which were juveniles), 2 felony arrests, issued 17 misdemeanor citations and 1 infraction during the period of June 25, 2025, through July 1, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of June 25, 2025, through July 1, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 439 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 47 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
Community Service Officer Estes attended a School Resource Officer Training in Corona, CA. All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.

Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 22 calls for service last week, they were: 13 medicals, 3 fires, 2 traffic collisions, 3 public service 1 investigation.
